November 1989 from Issue 24

November Mars underway to Pearl Harbor
visiting there from the 5th to the 8th and then
sailing home to NSC Oakland arriving on the 13th
and remaining there till the end of this month.
Before entering Pearl Harbor, Mars assisted in a
Med-Vac operation, giving rescue aid to a heart
attack victim by acting as a stepping stone for a
rescue helicopter from the Coast Guard District
Fourteen, the operation was flawless. The
PACEX operation was successful, Mars receiving
a 100% completion rating. Standing down for
four days, Mars participated in the Navy safety
stand down. Also 463,000 gal of fuel were offloaded
and preparations were made for the
upcoming overhaul work. The ship’s Gospel
Singers Group: “Arks of Faith” booked several
singing appearances while in the Bay Area.
